GRAVESTONES v1.0
Created by Xek
DIE. RETURN. RECOVER.
Minecraft Java 26.2

Back up your world before installing or updating datapacks.

CORE LOOP
Death -> Gravestone -> respawn -> Grave Compass -> return -> right-click grave -> inventory restored -> grave and compass cleaned up.

VERIFIED FOR v1.0
- Normal death and recovery
- Original-slot inventory restoration
- Armor and offhand restoration
- Grave Compass display
- Lava-area death test
- Nether death and recovery
- Quit/reload persistence in Nether
- Collision test preserved a newly acquired item by moving it to an available slot
- Clean install/death/recovery/uninstall cycle on Java 26.2
- Original minecraft:keep_inventory setting restored on uninstall
- Player-head and username displays intentionally disabled

JAVA 26.2 GAMERULE HANDLING
Gravestones requires Minecraft's keep-inventory gamerule while installed so the datapack can safely capture exact item stacks at death.
The pack uses the Java 26.2 gamerule ID minecraft:keep_inventory.
On first installation, Gravestones records the world's existing setting and enables minecraft:keep_inventory.
/function gravestones:uninstall restores the recorded setting.

COMMANDS
/function gravestones:help
/function gravestones:status
/function gravestones:cleanup_nearby
/function gravestones:uninstall

V1.0 SCOPE / LIMITATIONS
- One active grave workflow is the supported v1.0 target; multiple simultaneous graves per player are not supported.
- Multiplayer ownership protection is not part of v1.0.
- Grave expiration and a five-grave limit are not implemented.
- Advanced void fallback placement is not implemented.
- The Grave Compass uses Minecraft's Recovery Compass behavior for the latest death.
- Recover promptly. A tested slot collision moved the new item to an available slot, but a completely full inventory before recovery is not guaranteed safe.
